Oh Canada

One way I would spend my leisure time would be camping. Grant it I've only gone camping twice in my life, I still love it. The first time I went camping was around age 10 with some family members. That was the safe camping though. The next time I went camping was the summer going into my senior year of high school with a group of kids from school. We took a bus up to the boundary waters in Canada and spent seven days canoeing to each camp site at which we would spend the night. We even had to portage and deal with all of the bugs that attacked us every minute of the day. Many of us got sick or had to deal with chiggers (me), but in the end it was totally worth it. The sweat and pain that we poured into everything we did paid off in the end when we got to see the sun set in the night, or when we went on small hikes to a waterfall after arriving at our campsite for the night.
To me, leisure is something you choose to do in your free time. It is something you can enjoy and use to escape from the madness of your everyday lifestyle. It is a time in which you can use to slow your life down and do something that you really want to do on your own and without limitations. In my experience I guess I have to say that what I experienced was what some would call "weisure": in that everyday we worked our butts off to get to a safe and warm place for the night. We carried our canoes and packs over portages (land) that were as long as two miles. And we worked as a team, most importantly, because we took care of each other and worked equally as hard. And at the end of the day, and ultimately at the end of the trip, we were able to experience what only few people can or do in a lifetime.
